custom jvm for macos

I want to specify a custom jvm (provided by sdkman) to run jEdit on MacOS Monterey

In my .bash_profile file I have the custom jvm in my PATH, but when I launch the app, I get a message from the app saying that java 11 or higher is required.

How do I tell the jEdit app to use a custom jvm in macos?
