A couple of issues:

In Help > Beamer Presentations:

if you hold the <Down> arrow, the cursor eventually gets stuck. Specifically, it gets stuck inside the title inset "Default overlay/action specifications vs...."
If I press "<Down>", it does not got down.

Perhaps related to the above, but if I keep opening Beamer manually and holding <Down>, (and <Right>'ing out when I get stuck) eventually I get a SIGABRT. Sometimes this takes me a few minutes to trigger. I get the following backtrace:
