Is this a bug?

I was editing a long equation that exceeded the margins. So I used
ctrl-return to start a multiline equation. Then I numbered the last line of
the equation. When I went to preview I got errors.

I've narrowed it down to a simple example that demonstrates the bug and
attached the file.

To fix the example so that it can be previewed, number both equations.

I've tried it on version 2.5.0 and 2.5.1(downloaded the source and
compiled) and I'm on Linux(Ubuntu 26.04).
