Is it possible to place a macro file in LyXDir ?

Hello, I would like to place all my math macros in a single file, that would be included into all my documents, preferably in the LyXDir directory. Because my LyX files are mostly stored on external drives and used across several systems (Linux and Windows), I would rather use the $LyXDir shortcut, but it doesn't appear to work.
