I am not on Windows, so I can only give you limited advice. The LyX installer does, I believe, install LyX into \ProgramFiles. It should therefore be possible to install 2.5 alongside 2.4. I believe also that your 2.4 settings will be copied over into a new user directory, and the old one will be left untouched. So installing 2.4 should not, I think, affect anything with 2.4. That said, it probably would be a good idea to back up your 2.4 user directory before installing 2.5. You can find out where it is by looking at Help> About LyX. Your 2.4 files should continue to work just fine in 2.5. If they do not, then that is a bug on our end.
