The only reason why lyx would touch your file suddenly would be autosave
feature though I do not see why the result would be deleted.

As Scott I find more likely that some third app is touching that file.
Is that file saved on unusal place, like networking filesystem etc?

If you can rule that out, next possible target would be to disable autosave
and check whether the error disappeared. But that would also mean that
you lose autosave exactly for your sudden hits :/

What is the example of "random" name?
