I realized that nano had made it when Fedora made it the default editor [1].
And fully when Linus casually mentioned it in an interview [2].

I thank Mark Majeres, for his many patches to the undo system while I was
getting to know nano's code base, David Ramsey for his many bug fixes and
his integration of indenting and justifying into the undo system, and Mike
Frysinger for the conversion to using gnulib and the move from svn to git
-- `git bisect` was essential for finding the cause of the bugs I created.

Two features that I at first thought were over the top but ended up using
pretty regularly are: the comment/uncomment feature and word completion.
So thanks to Mike Scalora and Sumedh Pendurkar for those.

But most of all: thank you, Chris, for making nano in the first place!
