People won't need to adapt. When the united sidescrolling becomes the
default and people don't like that behavior, they can switch if off with
'--solo' or 'set solosidescrolling' (or whatever the option is going to
be called), to make nano use the old, well-known, single-line horizontal
scrolling. They can hardly complain, because that's how it always worked.

Sure, it might be _nice_ to make the united sidescrolling flexible and
configurable, but I don't see a need to do that upfront. There is always
room for a 9.1 and 9.2.

I'm not going to make a pre-release for this -- I loathe pre-releases. :)
Personally I can't be bothered to build those: I just wait for the final
release and use that. In my opinion, when one wants feedback from the
entire user base, only a regular release will do. Otherwise one gets
feedback mainly from untypical users.

It seems you're misunderstanding the cushion thing. 'Cushion' is the
distance the cursor keeps from the edge: when the distance would become
smaller, then the screen will scroll sideways. But the scrollstep is
still always just one character.

(When the code has been pushed to master, Xylia or yourself is welcome
to provide a patch that makes the scrollstep half-a-screen width when
'--jumpyscrolling' or 'set jumpyscrolling' is in effect. That's the
only configurability that I will accept for now.)
