And some of the jerky ones (joe, dte, fte, le, ne) can probably be configured to do it smoothly. It's just that the two ancient ones (emacs and vim) do _softwrapping_ by default, most likely because in those early days terminals were slow. I can't figure out how to make emacs scroll horizontally, but in vim it's easy: `:set nowrap`. Then it scrolls horizontally similar to nano with --jumpyscrolling plus the patch posted today. And to make vim scroll like default nano from git: `:set nowrap ss=1 siso=3`. So... it's implemented pretty widely, just not the default everywhere. Benno
