This needed reading threes time before I understood what you meant.
In nano, Ctrl-key combos are written with a caret and in uppercase.
You mean: ^S.

What I have been thinking for a couple of years is: isn't it time
to get rid of the "Mac format" thing altogether? When was it that
Mac switched from CR line endings to LF line endings? If I'm not
mistaken that was in 2001. Are there still people that use files
that are in the old CR format? And if there are, do they use nano?
And if they use nano, can't they continue to use an older nano?
They are using an old format -- why not also old software?

No, I don't find that at all clear. Most people have no idea what
CR and LF mean. And in these twenty five years no one complained
about "DOS format" -- it's not a good idea to change it now.

So... I am of a mind to discard the whole ability of nano to read
and convert and write Old Mac format. Who is opposed?
