What version do they use? GTK1 or GTK2? Did they apply any patches to 
either poEdit or wxGTK? This error does not come from neither poEdit 
nor wxGTK, it is something from GTK+ or GDK. Indeed, it looks like 
being related to TrueType fonts:

(It also indicates they are using less stable GTK2 build of wxGTK, am

It's probably something specific to your system. I don't know, maybe 
it's a bug in GTK+ or in poEdit or some of your fonts is broken (I 
don't have any font with characters needed to display this catalog, I 
can only see rubbish). Could you run poedit under gdb and see if 
there's any meaningful backtrace (gdb's "bt" command)?
