Hi, I am using poedit with (a german) windows xp, while the locales get used with linux and just finished a translation to french (did not translate by myselfe, instead got the texts in a word document. I had absolutely no problems (except that i could not enter numbers directly, but this has been already filed as a bug), I could enter the text, I could save the .po/.mo, and the .mo is working perfectly in the production environment. Just to let you know, it worked for me - with windows. -- Mit freundlichen Gruessen - Best Regards, Ingo Buse -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: poedit-users-admin-5NWGOfrQmneRv+LV9MX5uipxlwaOVQ5f@public.gmane.org [mailto:poedit-users-admin-5NWGOfrQmneRv+LV9MX5uipxlwaOVQ5f@public.gmane.org] Im Auftrag von Niki Kovacs Gesendet: Freitag, 13. I want to translate the Sweep Audio Editor into french. I gave it a try (just to see how it works) first with my favourite text editor (VIM), then with POEdit. There seems to be an encoding issue. When there are french characters in the text, the character and all subsequent text are lost. 1) after unzipping the source archive, po files in the po/ archive are ASCII encoded. 2) My standard Slackware locale is 8859-1. 3) I tried to edit the fr.po file and save it in utf-8 encoding. I can compile it OK, but when I run the program (from a terminal, to see error messages), I get something like: Pango warning ** invalid utf-8 string passed .... My Linux experience (5 years so far, all kinds of distros, pure Slackware for the last two years) tells me that character and encoding issues are the worst. Any suggestions? I'm clueless.
