You are seriously confused about what "Unicode" and "UTF-8" mean. UTF-8
is one particular way to encode Unicode text, so saying "unicode rather
than utf-8" is nonsense.

Please rephrase the problem so that it can be understood. It helps to be
*much* more specific (sometimes I wonder why I even bothered writing
http://www.poedit.net/trac/wiki/HowtoReportBugs ...) and to avoid
technical terms whose meaning you're unsure about.

Poedit is an *application*, it does not -- and never will -- alter the
way your operating system handles text input. If you mean that Poedit
doesn't do what other apps do, then you forgot to mention this crucial
fact and (much) more details would be most welcome.
