OK, I've researched the problem a bit more. This is what happens, as exact as I'm able to describe it: 1. Open poedit. 2. File->New Catalog, with these settings: Project name: feilbeh Language: Norwegian Nynorsk Country: Norway Encoding: utf-8 Encoding sourcecode: utf-8 Path: [Path to sourcecode] (no root folder) Save as: [Path to sourcecode]/locale/LC_MESSAGES/default.po 3. Open in GEdit, and "æ", "ø", "å" works fine. This made me question what I did differently when the bug (wherever it may reside) appeared. So I did the same steps, but this time I named the file "messages.po" instead of "default.po", as I did the first time the abnormality showed up. 1. Open poedit. 2. File->New Catalog, with these settings: Project name: feilbeh Language: Norwegian Nynorsk Country: Norway Encoding: utf-8 Encoding sourcecode: utf-8 Path: [Path to sourcecode] (no root folder) Save as: [Path to sourcecode]/locale/LC_MESSAGES/default.po 3. Open in GEdit, and "æ", "ø", "å" turns into "Ê", "Þ", "Ã¥", respectively. These characters are also what shows up on the website when using the corresponding .mo file. Now, I try and repeat the process, saving as "fanden.po". Now "æ", "ø", "å" also shows up correctly in gedit. Technical details of setup: Poedit version: 1.4.2 Operating System (or "Linux" distro, if you will): Mandriva 2009.0, kernel 2.6.27.5-desktop586-2mnb Is this sufficiently detailed? I have not considered what happened when I opened and saved the messages.po file on Ubuntu, cause I don't have that machine here and now. However, I'm quite certain that this was what happened, and I can confirm this once I get home today. -- Ringheims Auto - Fri musikk for bilstereo! http://ringheimsauto.org ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This SF.net email is sponsored by: SourcForge Community SourceForge wants to tell your story. http://p.sf.net/sfu/sf-spreadtheword _______________________________________________ Poedit-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/poedit-users
