you saved the file as that file, but please learn to be precise.

These two lines contradict themselves, you couldn't have named the file
default.po and messages.po at the same time. Again, you have be precise
when reporting bugs, you're making it unnecessarily hard to understand
them otherwise.

No. You can answer that question yourself easily: can *you* take the
instructions you just wrote me, follow them to the letter *without using
any other information* (such as your files you didn't see fit to share,
or some secret information you didn't mention), on *another* computer,
and reproduce the problem? Clearly, no: you wouldn't be able to create
the catalogs without the source code.

These two files are identical:

I can't resist noting that this is something you could have easily
checked this yourself and save us both some time. It also means Poedit
isn't doing anything wrong when saving as "messages.po" (to be honest,
that would be quite insane thing for it to do...).

Corollary: If you are seeing these "two" files differently in some
application, it is said application (and not Poedit), that is to blame.
Either that or there is some crucial detail you didn't see fit to
mention. I still suspect the latter, because I can't believe GEdit would
do something as absurd as treating "messages.po" name differently (mine
certainly doesn't).
