[poedit-users] Getting started

Hello,

I'm getting started with poEdit. I have a small C++/wxWidgets program 
with several strings inside _("..."). I can't seem to get started with 
poEdit:

1) I start the program and go to File > New Catalog. I fill in the 
project info as best I can (what can I put under project name? why do 
you need a version? what are plural forms?) and click OK.

2) The program asks me to pick a file name. So I pick one. Then it 
immediately gives me an error:

* Poedit did not find any files in scanned directories.
* Entries in the catalog are probably incorrect.
* Updating the catalog failed. Click on 'More>>' for details.

Btw, there is no "More>>" link.

What does all this mean? PoEdit never told me that it needed to scan 
anything. Why can't it just create an empty file with the info I gave 
it? In any case, how do I tell what to scan, it never asked me!

3) Anyways, I try to move on. Naturally there are no strings to 
translate, so I want to add one. I look through all the menus and I 
don't see any option to add a new string. Hmm... that's not very useful.

I then notice that the window is divided into three sections. I've seen 
poEdit before, and I vaguely recall that the bottom sections are for 
translation, but it is not clear which one is the "from" language and 
which one is the "to" language. I try to type into one of those boxes 
but nothing happens. What gives! Typing into the bottom-most box does 
work, but that's pretty useless on its own.


Not good.

Can someone explain to me how I can add translation strings to poEdit 
please?
