does it use the xerces DOM? Pollo requires some DOM features which are
not always implemented (like mutation events) and IIRC also uses some
dom level 3 functions.

It's not really possible out-of-the-box, some cleanup is needed before
it can be done. I think I have written on this before on the list, I
don't have the specific issues fresh in my mind right now. I think
someone also submitted some patches for this. I'd suggest to simply try
to use the XmlEditorPanel and solve any issues you might encounter.
