I can understand that, but on Linux it's exactly the reverse. Maybe we
need an abstraction layer in between so that it can be made
configurable.

this is one I've been thinking about. There's already some try-out code
to show the exact content-model expected at a certain location (see the
option in the validation menu), which also works by dynamically
validating the document up to the selected node.

I don't have any plans really, but I don't expect to be able to work on
it in the foreseeable future.
