I agree. It was just a decision I made a while back to use Thunderbird. Overall, if it can do what I want, great. If not, I'm stuck, as you say. Luckily, it seems to do most everything I need.

I just look at the "To:" field in the thunderbird interface. Over time, the fields have gotten filled in differently, as yahoo has changed their policies. So when I use thunderbird (or yahoo) to reply to the group, I'm careful to double-check, to make sure the post is going where I want.

Yes and no. It gives you the option to reply to the source author. But the email address is partially hidden, so someone (probably) cannot figure out the email address. It's actually a bit confusing, with the partially hidden addresses. The yahoo groups default is (currently) to send to the group, which you already knew.
