I had long feared something like this happening, even worse that any day
the site might crash and all the old content disappear, with no warning.
The basic problem is that yahoo is and has long been a cr** company. For
some reason, most yahoo software has always been (IMO) poorly designed
and glitchy. For example, yahoo email has always had many problems, I
know from personal experience. My best guess is this is related to "the
dumbing down of the American programmer", with "let's try clicking on
this" or "maybe this will work" style. Just the opposite of sed, which
is oriented to the programmer who is in control of the software and
knows what he/she is doing. Marisa Meyer taking over made things even
worse, but maybe it was too late anyway. Then there was the huge user
data breach, incredibly incompetent on the part of yahoo. Finally, yahoo
was sold off and is apparently continuing to deteriorate. It is pitiful
yahoo has to cut way back a working groups system. Even the announcement
concerning the change is a bit vague. For example, the term "upload
content" is poorly defined. They should spell out *exactly* what is
going on.

Despite the vagueness, it seems clear that all old posts will go away
(Dec 14) and that posting to online interface will go away (Oct 21). It
also seems there will still be an online interface, where someone might
ask to join, but no posting to an online form.
Maybe this is an opportunity. The yahoo groups software has never been
that good anyway. I have previously mentioned this. 1) It displays line
breaks differently (looks bad) depending on whether an email post or
post directly to site. 2) More seriously, it has been documented to get
confused about certain "odd" character sequences used in sed but not
normally used in English words. :( This is extremely bad. I don't
remember the exact details, but I remember 100% this has happened. I
think this perhaps even happened in one of the previous two threads.
********* Sven, or whoever is current admin, do you have a way to
automatically download all the archived content? I think it is very
useful to save, one way or another we *must* save it, because there are
many good examples and insights in the content.

we might migrate to? Or stick with email-only group? Or other preferred
course of action? Any other thoughts or reflections?
If there is no response or good answer to the above two questions, I
will see what I can do. But it would be better for the admin to look
first, because they *might* have an easier way to download the content,
and probably know more about all this than I do.
