Big bug introduced in version 2.1.1

Dear all,

A big bug was introduced by Jeroen's patch #10134 :
subscripts and superscripts no longer work, due to a name clash.

I should of course have noticed this.

In the future, I plan to be far more conservative
when applying patches just before new versions.

Please do not be offended when your patches do not get applied
very fast; the review process will be longer from now on.
