@h-east Thanks for pointing out that `~` can be created and annihilated within the same replacement, thus leaving no observable effects. But it could be bewildering to someone (like me) who wrote `%:~:s?~?/app?` (without escaping `~`) and removed `%:s` to debug the partial result.
