echo &shell returns /bin/zsh but when I run :sh I get a strange shell.

Here is an example:

It does not look great... 
On the other hand, when instead I run :terminal I get a correct zsh shell. 
I wish to fix this because I use a lot of :! commands and these movements 
are part of my muscle memory by now. 
Any idea on how to fix it? 

I am working on MacVim 9.1.
