I have no idea what's going on and maybe your terminal is involved.

the problem is: vim seems to remove the CSI.

You can also mention the main goal (maybe there was a simpler way):
* say a macro works for me and not for you
* how to get the minimal setting we can agree about

Aside: that's why my ~/.vimrc looks like this so I can
