I agree with you view on waste, but don't forget that what is considered as "waste" here in the developed world when it comes to computer hardware is perfectly usable hardware, however, it is cheaper for companies with money (i.e. not schools) to dump machines than it is to upgrade them. Hence there is legislation in the these wonderfully "developed" nations to stop them dumping this stuff on land fill sites. These waste machines are used within school here too!
