Hi All


I have an update on my workshop with the min. of ed here in trinidad.

The faciliator has stated once again, that included in the 2004-2005 budget is the MS open licences
for all schools.

So all their workshops and or development infrastructure is concentrated on MS suite training
(word/excell/power point/access/frontpage/publisher)

She was intrested however in the Learning Content Managment System for the website in schools
project.

How can we get her (somone at the level in MoE invoveled in the project?
Should we invite her for a presentation?

Any way i have to do a presentation for her next week on the integration of technology in to the
curriculum. We are suposed to use MS sute to create lesson plans,  presentations, and even a
wedsite.

I see this a perfect time for me to demostrate how open source software canbe used to create the
same outputs....but I can only do so, if time permits me and/or if i can get help form other
members in the preparation of and/or use of the various open source apps, cause I have final
semester exams next week also (tight schedule)

Dear CIS,
I'm at the computer for schools workshop in Jamaica.
The presentations are very interesting and as a result the discussions
are very lively. The CFS program seeks to transfer a model that works
excellent in Canada, Colombia and a number of other south American
countries, where used pc's get refurbished in different organizations:
schoolbased, semi-commercial and social-entrepreneurial programs.
I think it certainly gives an option on reaching the schools with
computers faster then we have until now, creating technical and
professional IT personnel and creating jobs.
Some people are a bit skeptic on the usability of the computers, the
life-time and getting rid of the waste.

Different country presentations are being made.
Anyway, I'll send a mail on how it goes.
