James Decades ago (1960s) at Library School one of the first rules of cataloging was to use the TITLE page, never the cover (which could easily get lost or be removed by binders) Then came computers and the temptation for libraries save money by hiring technicians who would download records from existing cataloging data instantly - and often did so without time for any examination for accuracy. This problem was exacerbated for books in other language and alphabets, which were then rendered in transliterations of often dubious merit. Old card catalogue entries, using old transliteration tables, were transcribed, with errors intact. Recent records are better since they can now take advantage of cataloging records from the country of origin in the native language. We have great hopes of the new National Library of Greece which has a team re-cataloging books into the new building. It "IS" theoretically possible to get some errors in Worldcat entries corrected through staff at a *contributing* library (after all it is not exactly Wikipedia) but it is not instant or easy!
