[Edinburgh] on Mass Violence in the Roman World: Fieldwork Results and
Theoretical Debates, reviewing evidence for slaughter and *enslavement* in
Belgium, NW Spain and Scotland.

Fascinating how *Roman mass violence disproportionately affects marginals,
less complex societies, highlanders, rather than larger urban
agglomerations*. Despite the fact that the latter had more military power
and contained more loot. Similar patterns in the conquest of Italy.
