Three articles by Rod Dreher in _The American Conservative_ discuss the imbroglio at the recent SCS conference. The first article has links to various reports: 29 January 2019: https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theamericanconservative.com%2Fdreher%2Fprinceton-professor-kill-the-racist-classics%2F&data=02%7C01%7CCLASSICS-L%40LSV.UKY.EDU%7C62b74f487aab43798d6508d68d59eaf5%7C2b30530b69b64457b818481cb53d42ae%7C0%7C1%7C636851814666563040&sdata=wEaKx8aIDcx%2FLySxWyfnOlcW1g%2BPUKj5VgdYKKelx44%3D&reserved=0 30 January 2019: https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theamericanconservative.com%2Fdreher%2Fclassics-studies-no-country-for-white-men%2F&data=02%7C01%7CCLASSICS-L%40LSV.UKY.EDU%7C62b74f487aab43798d6508d68d59eaf5%7C2b30530b69b64457b818481cb53d42ae%7C0%7C1%7C636851814666573049&sdata=YKD%2BCfDHX8A%2FuH7xHYZcDX0BJLL779PWcjX4x2lMt2s%3D&reserved=0 1 February 2019: https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theamericanconservative.com%2Fdreher%2Fprinceton-professor-kill-the-racist-classics%2F&data=02%7C01%7CCLASSICS-L%40LSV.UKY.EDU%7C62b74f487aab43798d6508d68d59eaf5%7C2b30530b69b64457b818481cb53d42ae%7C0%7C1%7C636851814666573049&sdata=PVAgwIpi01BI9%2BF%2BDGfm7MBHNGAvzWMmYn%2BNMiBQKhk%3D&reserved=0 My own position is that I suspend judgment, since I don't know the facts. I'm skeptical of the initial/official reports, which seem unduly hostile to Mary Frances Williams, who does have a PhD in Classics and two books to her credit, Recollections can be notoriously unreliable. The only evidence I'll trust is the video that was made of the panel; so far, the SCS has not put it up on their YouTube channel. The Peralta paper is appalling. Aside from its neologisms, it has no classical content. With a few words changed, it could just as well have been delivered at a conference of mathematicians or rocket scientists. Anyway, this episode interests me. All info welcome. John Lauritsen, Independent Scholar.
