I’m only 10 minutes into this podcast featuring among others Pauline Kaurin of Navy War College, and I like it. At a sauntering pace, it seems to be accurately doing away with many false notions about Spartans.  Quite a culture, indeed.  
Kaurin insists that Plato and Aristotle criticized Spartan culture.  The tangle of conflicting allusions to Spartan “honor” in Republic 8.553 that I just worked through seems to illustrate that: Spartans dishonorably pursue “honor.” Plato often has an ace up his sleeve.
