Dear Colleagues, MARCH means it’s time for National Latin Teacher Recruitment Week! Just today, I saw a letter stating that an Illinois school could not easily find a Latin teacher and the current Latin program was thus in jeopardy. As I wrote letters of support to the local School Board members, I felt that all-too-familiar sense of urgency - the realization that we can NEVER rest in our efforts to encourage MORE people who are trained in the Classics to teach what they love! Do we really need more Latin teachers? YES! JOIN OTHERS THIS YEAR AND SHARE OPENLY ABOUT YOUR PASSION FOR TEACHING, ENCOURAGE STUDENTS, PROMOTE AWARENESS, PARTICIPATE IN A CAREER FAIR, OR HOLD AN EVENT! Need help? The National Committee for Latin and Greek joins the American Classical League and the Society for Classical Studies to encourage and even sponsor local NLTRW activities. If needed, you can apply to get a mini-grant to fund an activity to raise awareness at your school or university in 2019! (Check for more information info and see resources on the sidebar links at: promotelatin.org/NLTRW). If you enjoy and value teaching, why not encourage others to explore this career? Respectfully, Katie Robinson
