Baffled by modern Greek, I searched for the meaning and context of this stirring poem and now have the gist of it. Was it written during the German occupation? It would be equally fitting for the second destruction of Greece by the Germans under the disguise of the EU, though this time I doubt that the slaves will respond to the sound of trumpets in the mountains. It's very sad to find that Google Translate thinks that Αργείος means 'fish'. RH
