The Department of Classical Studies at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, invites applications to fill THREE tenured/tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (no more than four years from promotion to Associate at the time of application), to begin in Fall 2020. PhD must be in hand at time of application.

The Department seeks three scholars with vigorous and compelling research programs, first-rate teaching, and a commitment to program innovation and development in this exciting time of transition. Areas of specialization are open to all subjects traditionally associated with Classical Studies (Greek and Roman language and literary studies, cultural and historical studies, archaeology and material culture), but should complement and not duplicate existing expertise in Classical Studies and related departments. (Applicants specializing in Roman history and Latin literature are encouraged to apply in anticipation of upcoming retirements in the department.) We particularly welcome research and teaching agendas that seek to reach out laterally across the University and/or show promise of effective engagement with a broad range of students from diverse backgrounds.
