Hi, Dan.
I really like the version by Peter Meineck and Paul Woodruff, from Hackett. It's very good in its own right, and the intro and notes are excellent too.

Subject: [CLASSICS-L] Looking for good translation of Oedipus for high school

I'm going to Haddonfield HS this week to talk about Oedipus. Last year,
was *Medea*. Both times they were using lousy translations, and I'm going
to recommend S. Murnaghan's *Medea *for future use. Now a number of
teachers are asking for recommendations of a good cheap modern Oedipus.
Not having taught this for a while, I'm asking others what they would
recommend. I'd welcome any suggestions.

These are smart students, and the HS elective system allows a full semester
on Greek Drama. They have a very able teacher. I wish every public
education system were as lucky. (Underside of this: recent finding that
the most segregated area of this highly segregated state (NJ) is the
Philadelphia corridor. Haddonfield has a lot of work ahead.)

Best,

Dan Tompkins
