"Turned-down" is indeed translationese nonsense; for rhetorical terms, the modern entry-point is Lausberg's monumental *Handbuch*, ed. 4, where pp. 456-460 divide *oratio* into 3 parts: *or. soluta* (Pars. 916-920), *or. perpetua* (921-922) & *periodos* (923-947). *Or. perp*. corresponds to *lexis eiromenê* & *periodos* to *lexis katestrammenê* (p. 458), or *oratio vincta atque contexta*. (Sidebar: How many in the Group have noticed his hyper-Teutonic *Inhaltsverzeichnis*, which (depending on how one counts) reaches (p. 19) 13 or 14 indented subdivisions, with entries squeezed to the far right of the page?)
