While no previous experience in speaking Latin is necessary, all participants should be able to read unadapted Latin texts. Through the use of active Latin, attendees find that they acquire a more instinctive command of the language and, as a result, a more intimate relationship with Latin writings. A non-refundable entrance fee of $175 must be received by May 1, 2020. Those interested in participating in these two Latin language conferences should contact Prof. Terence Tunberg at the following e-mail address: [email protected]. https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.conventiculum.com%2F2020-english-l&data=02%7C01%7CCLASSICS-L%40LSV.UKY.EDU%7Ce53799202bdd4e41a96d08d75d233ff9%7C2b30530b69b64457b818481cb53d42ae%7C0%7C0%7C637080278308676223&sdata=skVHtE6RY9djfwzD60gboe9cdzDt%2BjHbK%2FgFUYeEv%2FM%3D&reserved=0 _____ *CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT - ΣΥΝΟΔΟΣ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ* ΣΥΝΟΔΟΣ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ July 12–18, 2020 at the University of Kentucky, Lexington Anyone with at least intermediate knowledge of ancient Greek and an interest in developing active competence in the language is invited to the fourth annual σύνοδος ἑλληνική adjacent to the campus of the University of Kentucky, modeled on the well-known Latin conventicula which Professor Terence Tunberg has organized since 1996. The σύνοδος is organized by Humanitas in cooperation with the Polis Institute, Jerusalem. For one week, we will use ancient Greek as an active language of communication to talk about everyday objects and events and to discuss selections from a wide variety of ancient Greek texts. A non-refundable entrance fee of $175 for participating in the σύνοδος must be received by May 1, 2020. A seminar for Latin Teachers July 29-30, 2020 at the University of Kentucky, Lexington This seminar is designed to provide Latin teachers with practical skills, tools, and techniques that will be helpful for adding active Latin to their own practice of teaching. During *Doceamus!*, teachers will discuss, design, and practice techniques to add more active teaching methods to their current curriculum in a manner that they and their students will find approachable. This seminar is designed to enhance what Latin teachers are now doing, by adding an active component to teaching and learning. Our purpose is not to persuade teachers to sacrifice any parts of the curriculum that they want to keep, including grammar instruction, reading, translation, and projects. A non-refundable entrance fee of $75 for participating in Doceamus! must be received by May 1, 2020. Those interested in participating in this event should contact Laura Manning at the following e-mail address: [email protected]. https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.conventiculum.com%2Fdoceamus-2020&data=02%7C01%7CCLASSICS-L%40LSV.UKY.EDU%7Ce53799202bdd4e41a96d08d75d233ff9%7C2b30530b69b64457b818481cb53d42ae%7C0%7C0%7C637080278308686216&sdata=Zmkipr82X77z16kkxFL3M%2FIJwyOPfCvQLeeLoM6QUsg%3D&reserved=0 Sincerely, Laura Manning -- Doctoral Candidate.
