University of Cincinnati Ph.D. programs

The Department of Classics at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for its Ph.D. programs in Bronze Age Archaeology, Classical Archaeology, Ancient History, and Greek and Latin Philology. The composite structure of the Department with four interconnected programs offers graduate students ample opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary work in Classics, combining material culture, history, and ancient literature.

The department is housed in John Miller Burnam Library, which is widely considered to be one of the most comprehensive collections of Classical materials in the world, including many pre-1800 editions and commentaries.

Graduate students receive up to seven years of funding that includes a summer stipend and one year of dissertation fellowship. They also have the opportunity to teach a variety of courses including beginning and intermediate Latin and Greek, larger courses in translation, and online courses.

The main focus of the PhD program is the professional development of graduate students. Our record of external fellowships, other awards, and job placement is among the highest in the US.
