COMPLIT 288  The Ancients and the Moderns: Modern Critical Theory and the
Classics Wednesday 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM

The seminar explores the impact of classical literature and culture on the
formation of modern critical theory. Topics include: construction of power;
trafficability of art; ritual theory; sexuality; gender studies; irony;
orality and literacy.


CLS-STDY 167/MODGRK 167 History of Greek Literature: Late 11th to the Late
17th Century Wednesday 3:00pm - 5:00pm

The course will explore the development of the Greek language and
literature from the late 11th to the early 17th c. Special emphasis will be
placed on medieval and early modern Greek vernacular texts, the Cretan
Renaissance, and the Greek Enlightenment.
All literary works will be available in translation. Students with advanced
knowledge of Greek will be expected to read texts in the original.
