Hi Bob, Jai, Some users have registered multiple times in the past and with our renewed access management system these dormant user accounts have floated up; the users have multiple accounts are now being prompted to choose between them but to be sure they are who they say they are, they are being sent an email. Changing of the email address in a user account is a temporary but not a permanent solution. Our customer support is able to inactivate those user accounts, a user just need to confirm they're really not needed. (We can't know that unless the user tells us.) When a user account is inactivated, the user won't get a choice anymore and also no email to corrupt their proxy session - they will just be able to sign in. When an account is inactive for a while, we know it can be deleted from our database at some point. Jai, if you could send me a ticket number of your communication with our support so we can improve that, I'd be obliged. Unfortunately there's no simple workaround or change Elsevier can implement. The emails can't have an institutional proxy added to the manual ID link and they can't turn the stupid emails off either. If one of the accounts being accessed is an SSO created one the idp.domain.edu.au/blah... option doesn't even go via a WAYFless URL - it wants the user to log in with a manual password. Not sure how that counts as SSO, the first "S" stands for "Single". Single meant one or once when I went to school. Perhaps they changed the meaning in the curriculum, I don't know. So far we've just been advising anyone who reports this to log into one of their accounts and change the email either to a personal one (I put my @gmail.com into my SSO created account) or a QUT managed account they have access to. When they go to log in, they are sent an email that asks them to choose which account to sign in with. They click one of the links in the email and are taken to an address like https://id.elsevier.com/as/aPYtb/resume/as/authorization.ping, where they need to enter their password. If they had started off accessing Scopus via EZproxy, then after entering password and clicking "Sign in", they are taken to https://www.scopus.com/null, which says "Page Not Found". Has anyone else encountered this or have a solution? By the way, a) we proxy on campus and b) the problem occurs on PCs in our campus IP range, so the issue would not be due to non-recognition of IP address, which it might have been if it only occurred off campus. The problem occurs for several users, so I'm presuming it happens for all users in the category described. If the process is started in one browser and the link in the email is opened in a different browser, the problem still occurs. So it does not seem to be due to session info that was created in the first browser. We are using the current Elsevier stanzas from OCLC. thanks Bob Pearson Digital Access Librarian University of Auckland Library New Zealand ******************************************************************** If you wish to stop receiving messages from EZPROXY-L or otherwise amend your preferences, you can do so here.
