Thanks, John.

I’ve changed it to that and am now finding basically the same thing as before—can access the content fine but only through browsing, while attempts to search have no effect.

I imagine there’s something else somewhere in my config file it doesn’t like, but I’m not sure where.

The vendor’s IT folks floated the idea that our “proxy service is prohibiting the use of certain jquery / javascript functionality,” but it’s not apparent to me where or how it might be doing that. I’ve moved the stanza to the beginning of the file to see if the change in precedence order might make a difference, but it appears not.

Any suggestions are very welcome.
