      Hello Anahita,
I meant email lists, either run by students or by the school. Here is one I found that is run by the school:

http://www.uofaweb.ualberta.ca/uai_current/uaisn.cfm

Similar to our group, there may be Yahoo! Groups or Google Groups, or as some schools' students are doing nowadays, a facebook page for incoming students.

You should search on Google for such groups.
Good Luck,
Srihari

      Hello Anahita,
If you have a supervisor, do contact them. They will have more information.

Depending on what kind of funding you got and what the University rules are, you may get part or all of your fees paid off, and/or get a stipend. It is hard to tell how things would go. Check with the supervisor and the University website.

It is hard to predict living expenses - this is where student run mailing lists that are specific to your University will be very helpful. I am sure a Google search will turn up a mailing list or two, and a facebook page potentially.

Sincerely,
Srihari

Dear Srihari,Thank you! The admission is from Uni of Alberta, and they assigned me a supervisor too.

Now, you still say that I should talk to them for the fund? Isn't it a defined amount? You mean that the registrations are performed before I got there? I do not know their system. If it is beforehand, I am ok.

When are the funds usually paid? And do you have a clue about the monthly expenses in Canada?Bests

      Hello Ana,
The second mail about funding might just have general information, so you should start talking to Professors and research groups asap.

Yes, please work on your passport
You will have to pay ahead. It is unwise to carry too much money on you as cash. You can use bank transaction to take care of the fees, and carry a little to use for expenses etc. You are from Iran, correct? I am sure you will find a good international students' mailing list, and you can also try to find folks who can address your questions with regards to banking etc.

We do have Harpreet Gill, a former member in Canada. He may be able to answer your questions.
In the meanwhile, look up the school for what sort of help they provide International Students by way of mailing lists etc.

Lastly, congratulations, and do tell us which schoo!
Good Luck,

Srihari

      Hi dear friends,

I was wondering if any of you are now studying in Canada or having some info.I received an e-mail that is saying I am recommended for a position and I should wait for 2 mails that are being sent to my physical address.

One is my admission letter and the other the funding information. Now I want to know about these things:- Does this mean that I should wait and see how much fund is allocated to my research and decide on going there or not after that?

-I have not been abroad so I have to start the passport process ASAP?-Am I supposed to carry money with me?? I mean the fund of my first term is paid at the beginning or the end  or during the term?

Many thanks in advance for your kind reply.Sincerely,Ana
