This is the kind of perseverance that one can use to boost one's confidence in most situations, not just for GRE / PhD. 12 out of 12 rejects and I would have probably given up. 7 of 7 rejects on round #2 would have scarred me. It takes serious courage to see past that much rejection, try a third time and be motivated enough to do a better job on the third attempt after so many rejections.
