Hello Everyone,

I find FutureLearn courses to be generally well paced, and though a little
low on material (which is actually a good thing, compared to some of those
MOOCs that have generated intimidating amounts of material), educative. I
have not taken this course in particular, but might audit it.

If you are a beginner, struggling with ESL, this would be a good class I
think.

Sincerely,

Srihari

Hello Srihari,

We=E2=80=99re looking forward to welcoming you on to =E2=80=98A Beginner's =
Guide to Writing
in English for University Study=E2=80=99, which starts on Monday 6 October.

This course is for non-native speakers of English with an IELTS level of
4.5 or above who are interested in studying at an English speaking
university. FutureLearn is a global platform and we are expecting
participants from around the world.

The course will take place online and will consist of a variety of videos,
articles, discussions and assignments. In Week 1 we will explain what
academic writing is and introduce you to how academic writing differs from
ordinary writing. Over the five weeks of the course we=E2=80=99ll help you =
to
develop your academic writing skills, teaching you how to organise essays,
use language correctly, develop your ideas and plan your essay. At the end
of the course you will be asked to write a short essay and get feedback
from other learners.

You=E2=80=99ll be taught by three experts in English language teaching from=
 the
International Study and Language Institute at the University of Reading (
https://www.reading.ac.uk/isli/)
- Anne Vicary, IESP Coordinator
- Sebastian Watkins, Programme Director for Short Courses
- Steve Thomas, IESP Programme Director
We=E2=80=99re looking forward to meeting you online and helping you improve=
 your
academic English skills.

Learning is more fun when you do it together, so why not invite your
friends and colleagues to enrol on the course and take part alongside you?
They can sign up on the FutureLearn website at:
https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/english-for-study-oct-2014/

The course will provide you with plenty of opportunities to interact with
other learners. In the meantime you can use the hashtag #FLeng4study to tag
your conversations about the course on social networks.

We appreciate that some learners will benefit from being able to document
that they have participated in this course and engaged with the content. We
would like to let you know that you=E2=80=99ll have the opportunity to purc=
hase a
Statement of Participation at the end of the course that will provide a
physical record of your participation. You might find this useful for
providing evidence of informal Continuing Professional Development (CPD),
commitment to your career, or of your awareness of the issues in a
particular subject. For more information please see:
http://about.futurelearn.com/about/faq/?category=3Dstatements-of-participat=
ion

If you have any queries or feedback in the meantime, please take a look at
FutureLearn=E2=80=99s extensive FAQs:
