Human Strategies for Human Rights

Human Strategies for Human Rights (HSHR) is a United States based non-profit
organization that provides human rights NGOs with organizational capacity
building, skills training, human rights education and assistance in the
formulation of strategies for the promotion and protection of human rights.
We work in developing and transition country (post conflict and post
communist) environments, and particularly with women's rights organizations.
In 2002 we are working in Romania, Turkey, Macedonia, Serbia and Argentina.

HSHR's approach is to work with each NGO in a learning-by-doing format. We
work part time, and over a one to three month period, in each NGO's office
using its projects and working realities as reference points in the training
and organizational development process. We begin each project with a needs
assessment, and conduct evaluation and assessment throughout the training
process. All of HSHR's trainers have a minimum of one graduate degree and
have experience in working in business or law plus human rights or
international relations.

Our projects are funded in one of three ways. The NGO can include HSHR as a
training and organizational development line item in a project, the NGO and
HSHR can fund raise for the project together, or the NGO can request HSHR to
consider applying its discretionary funds to pay for the project. HSHR's
monthly training fee is $1,000 (non profit), plus trainer's living stipend
of $300, ($400 in capital cities) and travel. We schedule trainings on a
geographically concentrated basis to economize on international travel
expenses.
