STCU Workshop
Ecological and Health Threat Associated
with Environmental Contamination
15-17 October 2002,
Kyiv, Ukraine


The Science & Technology Center in Ukraine is sponsoring an International
Workshop "Ecological and Health Threat Associated with Environmental
Contamination" at the facility Jerelo Hotel, Pushcha Voditsa, Kyiv, Ukraine
on October 15-17, 2002. Below is a brief description of the Workshop.

The Workshop objectives will provide a forum for health care and
environmental professionals, public officials, representatives from
governmental and non-governmental organizations, research institutes,
health organizations and environmental agencies to come together face to
face to discuss issues and identify priorities for collaboration in
environmental safety and health pro-motion. One of the main priorities of
the workshop is to encourage more cooperation between the parties and
development of collaborative proposals that might be of possible interest to
vari-ous organizations, including STCU, NSF, CRDF, DTRA, CIDA, TACIS and
others.

*TOPICAL AREAS*(including but not limited to)

Session 1 (ecological problems)
1. Environmental Monitoring and Instrumentation. Radiomonitoring.
2. Air and water pollution and control.
3. Waste treatment and processing. Hazardous waste disposal.
4. Environmental safety and remediation.


Session 2 (health problems)
1. Monitoring of human exposure to environmental contamination.
2. Deleterious effects of environmental anthropogenic factors on a person's
health.
3. Infections from environmental contamination.
4. Minimization of the environmental factor impact.


*REGISTRATION*
You are kindlyasked to provide an abstract of your report (oral presentation
or poster) to participate in the Workshop.Please use the enclosed form.
Since the time is short for travel arrangements, please
complete the registration form (on their webpage) at your earliest
convenience and reply by e-mail or fax (and mail us a copy as a back-up) by
August 20, 2002. The on-line registration (preferred method) is available at
www.stcu.kiev.ua/tws

*OFFICIAL LANGUAGE*
The working language will largely be English, however, there will be
simultaneous translation to the Ukrainian language of plenary sessions and
interpretation support in working groups.

*LODGING*
The Workshop will be at the Jerelo hotel, which is located in Puscha
Voditsa, a resort about 20 km from downtown Kyiv. The STCU will provide
meals and lodging cost-free to participants. Details on travel arrangements
and accommodation will be mailed upon registration. Confirmation by STCU
will be sent to participants by September 15, 2002.

*IMPORTNAT DATES*
20.08.2002: Abstract submission deadline.

30.08.2002: Abstract acceptance notification and early-bird registration
deadline.

15.09.2002: Invitation for participation in the Workshop.
