IWPR schedules two workshops for Central Asian journalists


The Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) will conduct during the
week of September 9 two workshops for Central Asian journalists -- a two-day
basic skills workshop, followed by an advanced skills program focusing on
investigative reporting.

Thirty-five journalists from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan are
expected to attend the workshops, which will be held in the Kyrgyz capital
of Bishkek. The four-day event aims at addressing the current reporting
challenges faced by journalists in Central Asia, and at discussing the
standards of international journalism. The workshops will also work to
improve the participants' interviewing techniques, while empowering them to
tackle large-scale investigative reporting projects.

Twenty-five journalists will participate in the initial session, which will
address more basic issues related to Central Asian journalism, such as story
selection, article styles and structure, and the editorial process. A
smaller group of 10 experienced journalists will participate in the two-day
advanced skills workshop, which will focus on the concepts behind the
initiation and systematic development of long-term reporting projects.
