Learning from Violence - A symposium on youth policy responses to everyday
violence

Violence is a vast issue, and to work with it and learn from it, focal
points have to be defined. The experience of young people - youth workers,
members of youth NGOs, and carriers of various antiviolence projects - will
be at the heart of the discussions. While learning from each other is a very
important aim and function of the meeting, the symposium is also meant to
produce recommendations and guidelines that may inspire or inform youth
policy measures. The themes of the main working groups - Discriminatory
violence, Group-based violence, Politically motivated violence and
Institutional violence, Bullying and mobbing (including violence against
teachers) and Parental violence - are indicative. Other themes may be added
according to the participants' interests and main concerns.
The symposium will bring together a total of 100 participants from a variety
of backgrounds:
o NGO representatives, youth workers and youth leaders active in projects
against
violence;
o researchers and experts in violence issues;
o representatives of local and public authorities (schools, youth services,
police, social
work, street work);
o government representatives from the fields of youth and education;
o politicians.
Participants' travel expenses will be reimbursed according to the rules of
the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe will cover their board and
lodging in the EYCB. An enrolment fee of 28 Euros is payable to the Council
of Europe and will be deducted from the reimbursement of travel expenses.
