The Department of History at Duke University seeks a tenure-track assistant
professor specializing in the related fields of 19th and 20th century
Russia/Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. We look for candidates whose
scholarship and teaching make broad comparisons across this region. Of
particular interest to the department are historians who consider aspects
of the following topics: empire and nationalism; state building and the
formation of political institutions; conceptualizations of national
identities and political culture. The appointment is scheduled to begin on
