Postdoctoral Fellowships
for the Academic Year 2002/2003 or 2003/2004

Purpose
This programme is designed to promote mutual openness, understanding, and
co-operation among university teachers and researchers in social sciences in
the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.


Period covered
1 or 2 terms, starting from February 2003 or September 2003


Qualifications
The programme is designed for young researchers and teachers in the field of
social sciences. Applicants must:
Ø be Ph.D. graduates or close before the graduation;
Ø be under 35 years old;
Ø have ability to prepare and lead a course for the undergraduate level and
have at least a short experience in conducting such a course in the
following social sciences: international relations and European studies,
media studies and journalism, political science, psychology, social work and
social policy, socially oriented environmental studies, sociology;
Ø have finished at least a three-months stay at a Western university or a
research institute;


We offer
Ø the fellowship in the amount of 15.000 CZK payable monthly for the length
of stay (fellowships in the Czech Republic are tax free);
Ø accommodation free of charge;
Ø health insurance for the whole period of stay;
Ø working room at the School with the personal computer and a free internet
and e-mail connection;
Ø stimulating environment supporting mutual co-operation among fellows at
the School of Social Studies;


Obligations
Ø teaching two one-term courses in the spring or autumn term, or both, at
the undergraduate level. The courses at the School of Social Sciences last
12 weeks and have a range of one two-hours class or seminar per week in each
course. The courses have to cover the common university curriculum in any of
the mentioned disciplines. Offers can contain the courses of the basic
subject matter (basic theory of the discipline, historical overviews of the
theory development, methodological courses), as well as more specifically
oriented courses according to the interest and the research orientation of
the applicant;
Ø openness to the student requirements and two consultations hours per week;
Ø own research work, presented once during each term at the teachers
seminar;
Ø permanent presence in Brno with the planned absence not longer than four
weeks out of the total of the fellowship period and organised in such a way
as not to affect the teaching.

Applications accompanied by
Ø professional CV with the complete list of accomplished schools of higher
education, study and research stays, participation in the grant projects,
publications and conducted university courses;
Ø offer of four one-term courses, presented by one-page syllabi of the
courses scheduled to 12 classes or seminars with the given recommended
literature;
Ø recommendation from one university teacher;
Ø information on the research project to be conducted during the fellowship
stay.

The communication as well as teaching itself will be conducted in English.
The decision will be made based on the suitability of the proposed teaching
project and on the qualifications and availability of the applicant to carry
out teaching and research within the strict time-limit of the Fellowship.
The applicants will be informed about the decision of the selecting
committee by December 31, 2002
