Collegium Budapest Visiting Fellowships

Junior-Fellowship 2003/2004

In 1992 Collegium Budapest/Institute for Advanced Study was founded in order
to support and strengthen academic life in Central and Eastern Europe. Each
year, the Collegium invites up to 20 scholars from Europe and beyond either
for an entire academic year or for one semester. In addition, the Collegium
plans to invite several outstanding younger scholars to conduct the research
of their choice within this academic environment.

The aims of the Collegium are to encourage research in emerging disciplines
and new problem areas, to bring together researchers from different research
traditions and cultures, and to promote work on old and new scholarly
problems. Special emphasis will be put on problem areas connected with the
cultural, socio-political, and economic transformation that the Central and
East European countries are presently under--going, and on emerging
scholarly fields still underrepresented in this region or fields in which
the region is making a unique contribution.

To achieve this, the Collegium is offering, for the Academic Year 2003/2004
(1 October to 31 July), residential Junior Fellowships lasting from five to
ten months, to younger scholars and researchers (mainly from Central and
Eastern Europe) from any academic field.

Requirements

In order to qualify, scholars and researchers should:

not be older than thirty-five years of age
be classified as 'pre- or post-doctoral'
fill out the Collegium's application form (available on request)
submit a curriculum vitae
submit a list of publications (and, if possible, a copy of one of them)
submit a research proposal with scholarly references (approx. 2-4 pages)
submit two letters of recommendation from established scholars in their
field of study
be prepared to reside in Budapest during the term of their Fellowship--to
this end they should be free of other academic or work commitments for this
period.
NB. All materials must be submitted in English, French, or German. In case
of an application in French or German, it is required that the research
proposal has a short summary in English.

the Permanent Fellows of the Collegium will invite short-listed applicants
for a personal interview. Applicants will be informed about the final
decision by 31 January 2003.




*) If possible, it should be sent in one doc, rtf, or zip file in the
following order: filled in questionnaire, curriculum vitae, list of
publications, research proposal, 1 publication, letters of references.
